The 4th Annual Law Enforcement Family Fun Day was a huge success, generating smiles galore on the faces of the kids and parents who attended. This year over 600 people attended this free event, designed to say thank you to our law enforcement families for their many sacrifices to keep our community and our families safe.
The families were treated to a free barbecue lunch from Hungry Harry's Barbecue. When not enjoying the lunch, the kids were exploring this vast playground. From bounce houses to reptile displays, to planting flowers, to a big Easter Egg hunt, no one was bored. A DJ kept things moving, including hula hoop competitions. The kids and adults appreciated the K-9 demonstration by the Pasco Sheriff's K-9 unit. The families were treated to ice cream, sno cones and popcorn thanks to our business partners. Many of our business sponsors also awarded door prizes at the conclusion of the event, including barbecue grills, a water softener system, hair styling, and many other prizes.
Sheriff's specialty units brought their equipment for the kids to crawl on, in and under. This included a helicopter, the Bearcat, MRAP, and other SWAT equipment. The forensics unit had an anthropology hunt for the youngsters. The Equestrian Unit once again graced the families with the presence of their horses.
When all was said and done, we raised over $22,500.00 above the costs of the event, which was donated to the Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial and Benefit Foundation, Inc. That organization is committed to constructing a permanent memorial in Pasco County to our fallen law enforcement officers, and to provide a revenue stream that will aid the families of fallen officers in the days and weeks following a tragedy. In four years over $53,000 has been contributed to the Fallen LEO Memorial Foundation.
History of the Family Fun Day
In 2013, Arndrea and Craig Laporte wanted to find a way to acknowledge Pasco County's law enforcement officers and their families in a positive and fun way. They considered many possibilities, none of which seemed feasible at the time. The result of this desire to recognize the officers, employees and their families who give so much to ensure a safe community was a free day of fun for the families, supported by local business partners. The Pasco County Law Enforcement Family Fun Day was created and first implemented in 2014.
With the blessings and cooperation of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #29, a beautiful site on Bell Lake was secured. This secure and private lakeside setting is the perfect place for the close-knit law enforcement families to come together and relax in a familial atmosphere.
Craig's law firm, Proly, Laporte & Mulligan, P.A. spearheaded a drive to build a core of sponsors who were like-minded about sending thanks to our law enforcement community. The initial goal was simply to generate a sufficient revenue stream to pay for the day. As Craig and his supporters began to approach business, it became apparent that the financial support would exceed expectations.
Pasco County is the only county in Florida without a permanent memorial to its fallen law enforcement officers. Another organization, the Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Benefit Foundation had just been created to rectify this unfortunate situation. With the Fun Day sponsors approval, Craig pledged that any funds above those needed for the Family Fun Day would be donated to the worthy cause promoted by the Foundation.
Since the first LEO Funday, the concept has grown, and every year more and more business partners join with Craig, Arndrea and Proly, Laporte & Mulligan, PA to make the day a resounding success.
In 2017 it became apparent that this event will go on for years into the future. In order to make the program bigger and better, LEO Funday, Inc. was created as a charitable corporation, with IRS 501 (c)3 status. This allows the corporation to seek both business partners and charitable contributions to continue what is fast becoming a tradition in the Pasco Law Enforcement Officer Family circle. LEO Funday, Inc. is now run by a Board of Directors, whose sole focus is to continue to bring smiles to the families of our law enforcement community, and raise funds for worthwhile law enforcement charitable causes.

Fun Kid's Activities
Bring the kids of all ages for an afternoon of fun! The property on Bell Lake is perfectly suited for this "carnival like" atmosphere. There are activities for all kids, including the kids in all of us.
The younger crowd will have a ball in the bounce houses provided courtesy of Coastal Rental Centers. When not jumping and sliding they will have an opportunity to have their faces painted, get a custom balloon creation and pet ultra-cool reptiles.
Kids of every age will enjoy the ice cream, sno cones, popcorn and other treats awaiting them before or after they enjoy a wonderful barbeque lunch provided by Hungry Harry's. So bring the kids, and the kid in you and enjoy a day of relaxation among other Pasco Law Enforcement families.

- Hula hoop competitions
There is entertainment for every one of every age, from kids, to moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and aunts and uncles, and all are welcome. As contemporary and oldie music entertains the crowd, kids of all ages are encouraged to compete in hula hoop competitions and corn hole games.
Because law enforcement families often don't get to see what their moms, dads, brothers or sisters do, a special demonstration of law enforcement equipment and tactics will be presented courtesy of Sheriff Chris Nocco. Everyone will get a rise out of seeing the K-9 demonstration, or getting their pictures taken with various SWAT gear and equipment, or checking out the sheriff's helicopter.
Adults can walk the grounds, down to the pier on Bell Lake, and check out the beautiful view afforded from the F.O.P. lodge property, all while the kids are perfectly content with their myriad of activities.
And for the consenting and responsible adults, in addition to soft drinks, iced tea and lemonade, beer will be available inside the F.O.P. lodge.

Pasco Sheriff's Office K9 Demonstation
A Pasco Sheriff's Canine Officer and Handler will be on hand to give a demonstration on their unique techniques, skills, and capabilities.
The Pasco Canine Unit (K-9) is assigned to patrol sectors and assist uniform Operations by responding to routine calls for service when they are not providing search assistance. Canines are trained for area searches, article searches, and evidence recovery, building searches, tracking criminal suspects, locating missing persons, narcotics, and bomb detection. The Pasco Sheriff's Office Canine Unit consists of seven K-9/handler teams.
Pasco Sheriff's Office Aviation Helicopter Display
The Pasco Sheriff's Office will also have their helicopter on display.
The Aviation Unit provides airborne law enforcement support to all components within the Pasco Sheriff's Office seven days a week. Currently, pro-active air support is being provided to approximately 745 square miles of land, 21 miles of coastline, and 180 square miles of waterways. The Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit is the only law enforcement aircraft based in Pasco County. For this reason, the Aviation Unit is often summoned by other agencies for assistance.
The helicopter's speed, agility, and vantage point provide the road deputy with a "force multiplier" making it an invaluable asset. Sheriff's Office helicopters utilize the Forward Looking Infra-Red system to locate persons who may be concealed by darkness. The Aviation Unit consists of two law enforcement pilots, one Tactical Flight Officer, and one Aviation mechanic, all of whom are supervised by the law enforcement chief pilot. The Aviation Unit is responsible for the acquisition of equipment and parts, and for the maintenance of all fixed wing and rotary aircraft. The Aviation Unit's duties include proactive patrols, search and recovery missions, surveillance operations, domestic marijuana eradication, traffic enforcement, investigative transportation, and aerial photography for investigation and courtroom presentation.
Pasco Sheriff's Office SWAT Vehicle Display
During the event, the Pasco SWAT team will also have several vehicles on display.
The Pasco County Special Weapons and Tactics Team is a group of 21 trained law enforcement deputies with special knowledge in tactics, specialized equipment, and firearms. Members of the SWAT team all have other full-time jobs elsewhere in the agency. Members of SWAT must maintain superior physical conditioning and undergo an extensive amount of annual training. The members are on-call 24 hours a day, every day, to respond to high hazard, emergency and critical incidents requiring specialized firearms and/or tactics. These incidents include hostage situations, barricaded subjects, search warrants, arrest warrants, and dignitary protection details.
Sheriff's Equestrian Units. We Fight As One! Meet the Horses that serve Pasco Communities.
This wonderful event is possible because of our incredible partners who share our desire to recognize our committed Law Enforcement Officers and the contributions and support of their families. Our Pasco community is fortunate to benefit from their dedication. Our partners' generosity allows this event to be free to these families.
Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Proly, Laporte & Mulligan, P.A., Attorneys serving Pasco County and surrounding counties since its original inception in 1972. The attorneys and staff of PLM Attorneys have dedicated themselves to making the LEO Family Fun Day a recurring annual event.
Special thanks also to our partners who make significant in-kind contributions. Coastal Rental Centers stepped up to the plate in the first annual fun day, and donated the use of the bounce houses, water slides, tents, tables and chairs, and continues to do so this year. Hungry Harry's Barbeque was so impressed with the event in 2014 that it has agreed to provide all the food and beverages at a substantial discount for all future Family Fun Days.
We acknowledge the contributions and support of F.O.P. Lodge 29. They allow us to host this event on their spectacular property ad their members help us with set up, running the event safely and clean-up afterwards.
Additionally, the financial contributions of our platinum, gold and silver partners extends past this family event. Any funds available after the event's expenses are contributed to the Pasco Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund. This non-profit corporation was founded for purposes of constructing a permanent memorial to all fallen Pasco law enforcement officers, and to help provide financial assistance to the families of killed or injured officers. Because of our partners' contributions, we have raised approximately $53,000 for these great causes.
